When and how did Kelvin Hoefler start skateboarding?
Kelvin Hoefler started skateboarding when he was just 8 years old. The first tracks were improvised inside the house, with the help of his father, who was his main supporter in the sport.
It was Kelvin’s father who gave him his first skateboard. As they lived on a dirt road in Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo, the then boy walked indoors, going from the kitchen to the garage, where a mini ramp and some obstacles were improvised.
In an interview with the newspaper O Globo, Kelvin recalled how he got in the way of his mother’s soap opera. “She would freak out when I skated past the living room TV,” she said.
According to the skater himself, the discipline to become a professional athlete was the result of the guidelines and rigidity imposed by his father, who is a military police officer.
“My dad put me in line to be a competitive guy. Skateboarding has always been a way of life and today it is going in a direction that was what we wanted. Now it’s just a case of continuing the journey he gave me,” he said.
At age 9, Kelvin won his first skateboarding championship in Brazil. In the following years, he continued to excel until, in agreement with his father, he decided at age 13 that he would pursue a career in sport.
It was in 2011 that Kelvin Hoefler became a professional skateboarder. That same year, he won for the first time the WCS (World Cup Skateboarding) in Rome, Italy.
Two more WCS titles came in 2012, in Fortaleza and again in the Italian capital. In the following two years, he was champion of two other editions in the capital of Ceará and once in Moscow.
In 2014, Kelvin moved to Los Angeles to improve his skateboarding skills and get closer to the best street athletes in the world.
The strategy worked and the Brazilian established himself among the main skaters of the modality, with more expressive achievements.

What are Kelvin Hoefler’s main titles?
Kelvin Hoefler has a career filled with achievements and awards. Among the main titles of the Brazilian skater, there are 6 editions of WCS (World Cup Skateboarding), a world title of Street League Skateboarding (SLS), in 2015, and two gold medals in the X Games.
In the Street World League, it didn’t take long for Kelvin to establish himself among the best in the world and win his first trophies. In 2015, he became the first rookie to reach every SLS stage final and even won the final.
Kelvin Hoefler beat multi-champion Nyjah Huston and fellow Brazilian Luan Oliveira to take the Super Crown World Championship title that season.
In 2016, he was injured in the Tampa leg of the SLS and was out of action for nearly a year. In 2017, he resumed the good results and returned to the top 5 of the competitions he played.
It was precisely in 2017 that Kelvin Hoefler won his first gold medal at the X Games. In Minneapolis, he was the only one to surpass 90 points in the final and secured the victory with 92.33 points.

The X Games championship came in 2018. After winning a silver medal in Sydney and a bronze medal in Minneapolis, Kelvin Hoefler was champion in Norway. He scored 94.33 to take the gold, ahead of American Jagger Eaton and fellow Brazilian Felipe Gustavo.
In January 2019, Kelvin came close to winning the SLS title once again. In the decisive stage in Rio de Janeiro, he scored 37 points and was runner-up, behind only the multi-champion Nyjah Huston, who reached 37.6.
A decisive new SLS race took place in Rio in September 2019. That time, Kelvin Hoefler finished in fourth position, just 0.2 off a podium spot. The men’s title once again went to Nyjah Huston. In the women’s category, Brazilians Pamela Rosa and Rayssa Leal did a double, with gold and silver.
